Specsavers in Bedford raises money for Kidscape

Specsavers in Bedford has teamed up with a local radio station to help publicise the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition and to raise money for Kidscape's anti-bullying work.

'Specs are cool'

"Being bullied is a feeling we have all experienced to one degree or another," says manager Suzanne Turnton.

"Wearing glasses provides some with any easy way to make fun of another child's appearance, and these jibes can be devastating to a young person. That's why we in Bedford are getting right behind a campaign to raise money and awareness for Kidscape with our 'specs are cool' ethic."

Suzanne joined forces with local not-for-profit radio station in2beats (DJ French pictured with Suzanne above) asking people to come into the Bedford store and have their photo taken for the SWOTY campaign.

The Bedford store are now planning to get together a 'SWOTY Posse' on 6 June 2013. Armed with collection tins and a camera, they aim to take snaps of the Bedford public looking cool in their specs.

They will also have a stall in a local shopping centre on 24 June 2013, with spectacle wearing shoppers being asked to have their photo taken as part of the SWOTY campaign.
