Spectacular fundraising for Kidscape at SWOTY 2012
Battersea Power Station was the venue for the grand final of the Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards.
Following months of regional heats and finals, the 10 finalists assembled for the chance to win the coveted Spectacle Wearer of the Year trophy and a year's modelling contract. Hosted by Kidscape ambassador Gok Wan and Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan, the evening was a huge success.
The event was supporting Kidscape for the 5th consecutive year with a donation made for every entry to the competition as well as ticket sales, a raffle and auction on the night. During the course of the evening Kidscape Director Claude introduced a short film depicting 3 children whose lives have been helped by Kidscape's ZAP course and encouraged guests to be generous, which they were - more than £20,000 was raised.
The competition was won by Maria Gildea from Ireland (pictured) and the celebrity Spectacle Wearer of the Year trophy was awarded to Tom Fletcher of McFly. Other celebrities in attendance included X Factor star Marcus Collins, Strictly Come Dancing professional Ola Jordan with her dancing partner Sid Owen and Christopher Biggins, who won the celebrity award in 2009.
The total raised by SWOTY in the last 5 years has now exceeded £100,000 and Kidscape would like to extend a huge thanks to Specsavers, and particularly its founder Dame Mary Perkins (also a Kidscape patron) for their incredible support.
