Fundraiser spotlight: Sophie's Great North Run

On a hot and vibrant day in September, Sophie completed the Great North Run while raising a vital £410 for Kidscape along with her incredible personal achievement.

Sophie chose Kidscape for two reasons: she had experienced bullying herself, but crucially, she was concerned about the impact bullying had on other children and young people. Sophie had read all about the frightening statistics around bullying and wanted to support us.

"I feel humbled to have supported such a great charity to which bullied children and parents can rely upon seeking advice from those who truly care in times where they have no access to a support network," she says.

Once she'd decided to support Kidscape while doing her Great North Run, it was a matter of roping friends, colleagues and families into supporting her cause. "Don't be afraid to ask people to donate," she advises other sporty fundraisers. "Set a reasonable target, and be honest with people when engaging them."

At the end of the race, Sophie emerged a winner, and said she enjoyed the challenging run (the biggest half marathon in the world!) and loved striving to complete it for a good cause; supporting a charity gave her that extra motivation.

Sport and challenge event fundraisers mean the world to Kidscape. Unlike bigger charities, we can't afford to buy places in sporting events, and instead we rely on generous and motivated fundraisers like Sophie, who secured her own spot in the Great North Run and chose to run for Kidscape. We're incredibly proud of Sophie for her determination, motivation and kindness.

If you're taking part in a challenge, please get in touch. Our fundraising team will support you, and you'll know that every step you run, every turn of the pedals, every obstacle you conquer, you'll be raising much-needed money to transform the lives of young people experiencing bullying.
