Advice for parents

Keeping a bully log

To ensure that your child is adequately supported and the bullying is dealt with effectively, it is important that each incident is recorded and discussed with the school.

Many schools are extremely vigilant in recording and monitoring bullying incidents, and will communicate their actions with parents. However, there will be occasions when you are unsatisfied with how your child's school is dealing with the situation.

In these cases, the bully log is a simple way to promote open communication with the school and ensure that each incident is recorded.

Talk to the classroom teacher or head teacher prior to introducing the log to ask for their cooperation and active involvement. Explain that the log will help both your family and the school to better understand your child's experience of bullying, and thus inform the steps that can be taken to support them.
