Meet the team

Strategy Away Day Jan 2024

Paula Timms, Chief Executive

What I do: I am the Chief Executive of Kidscape. It is my job to lead the organisation, a bit like a football team manager, but also to make sure everyone is looked after who works for us, like the coach. An important part of my job is to make sure that I understand and listen to what children and young people are experiencing if being bullied in schools, communities and online so that we can provide services and information to support you to feel safe and happy.

It may surprise you that: Because my dad was in the Army, I lived in lots of different countries as a child and experienced bullying at times because I was always the “new girl” in lots of schools where people were different to me.

If I could time travel, I would tell my younger self: Being different is a quality that you should be proud of and that you shouldn’t keep trying to fit in. I do wish I knew then that being myself is amazing and being different is wonderful as an adult, it helps you to shine!

Ashley Rolfe, Director of Operations

What I do: I am the Director of Operations at Kidscape. A large part of my role is listening to families who need our help, and supporting schools and organisations who have identified a training need within their setting, then talking through how Kidscape can best support that need. One the most rewarding aspects of my role is supporting the young people and families who attend our workshops and also working with our team of amazing associates and volunteers.

It may surprise you that: I can hold my breath for nearly 3 minutes! I'm not sure how useful this skill is.

If I could time travel, I’d tell my younger self: That the EuroMillions numbers on Friday 14th April 2023 will be 4,11,37,44, 49,6,7.

Kat Fuller, Parent Support Manager

What I do: With over ten years’ experience working with children and families in various settings, including schools, charities and the Local Authority, I joined Kidscape in 2017 as Parent Support Manager. I am passionate about supporting parents and carers to feel confident in communicating with schools and supporting their child.

It may surprise you that: I have done several daring activities including a bungee jump in New Zealand and an abseil down a 418ft tower!

If I could time travel, I’d tell my younger self: Being an introvert is a positive thing. Be proud of who you are.

Kathryn Hames, Head of Income Generation and Partnerships

What I do: After (lots of) years in sales, account management, and corporate fundraising roles, I look after Income Generation and Partnerships at Kidscape. This involves looking at new ways to trade our provision and partner with organisations that share our vision, purpose and values.

It may surprise you that: I once sang on the stage at the Royal Opera House, and no, I can't sing now!

If I could time travel, I'd tell my younger self: Try not to sweat the small stuff and keep perspective on what really matters.

Bryony Glover, Head of Digital Services

What I do: With a background in the charity sector, I lead Digital Services at Kidscape. This means using digital to offer the best help we can to the children and families who need us.

It may surprise you that: I am a rat lover and have taught my pet rats to do tricks!

If I could time travel, I’d tell my younger self: Although it’s great to please other people, don’t forget to value yourself too.

Vall Murthy, Data Officer

What I do: I work with data to help the organisation run smoothly.

It may surprise you that: I enjoy growing vegetables.

If I could time travel, I would tell my younger self: Trying to win the approval of others is not sustainable, and learning to be true to my own voice, instincts and preferences is ok and will make me happier.

Hayley Smith FRSA, Fundraiser (Trusts and Foundations)

What I do: I lead on fundraising from trusts and foundations for Kidscape, as well as getting involved in other areas of fundraising, too.

It may surprise you that: I can speak four languages!

If I could time travel, I’d tell my younger self: The things your classmates call you “weird” for right now will be the things that make you a valued friend, partner and (dog) mother in the future!

Sarah Lewis, Regional Manager (South West England)

What I do: Having worked in the voluntary sector for over 30 years supporting young people and staff, I am still privileged to learn and experience so much from those around me. I am the Regional Manager for the South West, specialising in Kidscape's national Peer Mentoring programme.

It might surprise you that: I am sillier now than I have ever been!

If I could time travel, I would tell my younger self: Don't rush; let things unfold but make sure you take all those opportunities that come at you. Life is full of change, and that’s ok.

Carol Lilley, Schools Programme Officer

What I do: With a background in sales, business development and mental health, I started working with Kidscape in 2019 as a freelance trainer. As of early 2024, I have been working as the Schools Programmes Officer, looking after the programme deliveries in Westminster, London and beyond.

It may surprise you that: I am a keen dancer and artist and a qualified life coach. I also grew up in Cape Town, South Africa lived in Dubrovnik, Croatia for a while and then moved to London just before I turned 19!

If I could time travel, I would tell my younger self: Only focus on the advice and opinions of those people that truly care for you and want the best for you. Be kind to yourself, as the most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one you have with yourself! Follow your dreams and passions, make that your career someday and have fun along the way, as life is all about the learning.

Lisa Spencer, Head of Finance and Admin

We are also supported by a wonderful team of freelance trainers and volunteers.
