What is the ZAP Assertiveness Programme?
- A one-day intensive session providing
young people with the skills & support to prevent bullying.
- The many components can be presented as several smaller sessions.
- Skills & strategies can be included in a PSHE programme
Long-term Aims
After ZAP, children should have:
- reduced likelihood of truancy or self-harm
- more strategies for dealing with conflict & cruelty
- greater likelihood of success in personal relationships
- enhanced self-esteem
- a more active role in school & wider community
The Benefits of ZAP
79% of ZAP participants reported that they were no longer being bullied
ZAP not only reduces bullying, but also helps children to realise:
- they have the right to feel safe
- they are not alone in being bullied they do not deserve to be bullied
- they can take certain steps to reduce/deal with bullying
- their health/well-being is paramount
- usually it is the bully who has a problem, not them
