Kindness Surveys
In the run-up to Anti-Bullying Week, we teamed up with BounceTogether to provide schools with free online surveys to help measure their community’s experience of kindness, for pupils, staff and parents/carers.
We had an overwhelming response to the surveys with over 200 primary and secondary schools and 1150 pupils participating in the first few weeks. This is what we found:
- The overall perception of kindness in schools is positive with the majority of pupils reporting good experiences within their settings.
- There is, however, a worrying theme of disabled pupils and those with additional needs - particularly those who identify as male - experiencing lower levels of kindness.
- We can also see age as a factor with levels of kindness experienced amongst peers decreasing as pupils progress through the education system.
- We were struck by the wisdom of the young people taking part in the survey who demonstrated a strong sense of what kindness means to them, as well as what they think schools can do to nurture kinder environments. Just take a look at this quote from a year 6 pupil!!
