WokenUp announces Kidscape’s CEO, Lauren Seager Smith, as a non-executive director

WokenUp, the new global social network with purpose, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Lauren Seager-Smith as its first non-executive director. Ms Seager-Smith is the CEO of the UK anti-bullying charity Kidscape.

In welcoming her appointment, WokenUp’s founder and CEO Simon Puleston Jones said:

“Under Lauren’s oversight and with her collaboration, we look forward to developing our platform to ensure that it promotes the safeguarding of our youngest users from online harms. Having also previously worked for National Children’s Bureau and Save The Children, we’re excited by the opportunity to benefit from Lauren’s wealth of extensive expertise and relationships in relation to such an important demographic of our core target audience: Generation Z.”

Commenting on her appointment, Lauren Seager-Smith said:

“More than ever we need the online world to be a force for good and that means radically changing how we connect. WokenUp is an opportunity to bring light back into the world. It’s an honour to join Simon and the team as we start this journey together.”

Notes to Editors:

WokenUp’s mission is to transform humanity for good.

In order to deepen and accelerate their impact, WokenUp brings together on a single purpose-built platform the people, organisations and governments taking action on today’s pressing social and environmental issues – from climate and sustainability to diversity and beyond.

WokenUp is a London-based startup that is launching a new global “social network with purpose” in November. Uniquely for a global social network, the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals sit at the heart of the WokenUp platform.

Earlier this week, Greta Thunberg observed that “The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not” when addressing the United Nations General Assembly. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres then called for a “decade of action” to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030. This follows on from the recent Business Roundtable letter in which 181 leaders of corporate America asserted that the time has come to act in the interests of all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
