Welsh Government funds Kidscape to deliver free workshops to help schools address bullying

Today marks the start of Anti-Bullying week and this year the theme is ‘United Against Bullying.

In September of this year, the Welsh Government launched Rights, respect, equality: statutory guidance to assist school governors, staff and relevant professionals working within a school environment in developing and implementing anti-bullying policies and strategies.

The coronavirus has had a dramatic impact on young lives. Now, more than ever, they need support to build respectful relationships with one another, to feel safe within a challenging and changing environment and ready to learn. The wellbeing of children remains the absolute priority of the Welsh Government and they will fund Kidscape to provide practical support for governors and staff to make sure that all learners feel safe, secure and are supported to achieve their full potential.

Kidscape will deliver a series of webinars starting this December alongside an email-based support service to help governors and staff with developing and implementing anti-bullying policies and strategies.

Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams said, “As a Government, we are determined to work together to address bullying, and this is achieved by understanding and dealing with the root causes of unacceptable behaviour through a whole school approach.

“As school leaders I would urge all governing bodies and head teachers to participate in the Webinars offered by Kidscape. It is only by working together towards a common goal that we will truly make a difference in our school communities.”
