Primary BIT project funding comes to an end

The funding for our Primary BIT project has sadly come to an end. Primary BIT was a Department for Education (DfE) funded project which provided free support and early intervention anti-bullying training to primary school professionals and children in year 4 and year 5 in 13 London boroughs. From 2013-2016 over 250 schools and 18,000 children received Primary BIT.
The project was extremely successful, and it was highly commended at the Charity Awards 2015. In October 2015, Primary BIT was featured as a good practice case study in Children & Young People Now. The feedback* we have received has been overwhelmingly positive:
- 98 per cent of teachers rated the training as 'excellent' or 'good'.
- 92 per cent of children report that they understand how bullying affects people.
- 82 per cent of children feel better about themselves.
- 90 per cent of parents and carers felt that the BIT lessons had helped their children.
"The children are playing more cohesively and are able to use language taught in the sessions to resolve conflict sometimes. They seem to be able to notice when they need to remove themselves from situations and make better choices... This is a very helpful programme and I hope the funding will be continued so that other schools can benefit." Deputy Head Teacher, Camden
We would like to take this opportunity to thank DfE for funding the programme and their continuous support of Kidscape's work. A huge thank you goes to the children who responded positively to the lessons, to the professionals who committed to delivering BIT lessons with such enthusiasm, and the Primary BIT team for working endlessly to ensure schools have the necessary support at all times to complete the programme. At this stage, we are seeking further funding and hope to build on the success of the past three years.
