No Blame
Kidscape does not subscribe to the 'no blame' approach.
The 'no blame' approach was originated in Sweden by Anatol Pikas and
called 'common concern', later changed to 'shared concern'.
The idea of this approach is to get the bullies and victims to work together
to try to figure out a mutually agreeable way to deal with the bullying.
It is based upon the assumption that the bullies actually want the bullying
to stop. The adult who intervenes avoids blaming anyone for the problem.
This approach can work in less serious cases of bullying when the bully
and victim may have previously been friends but have fallen out with each
other.
It is unlikely to work if the bullies are picking on children they don't
know or care about and if the patterns of bullying are so well established
that the bullying itself has become a reward for the bullies.
Kidscape does not subscribe to the 'no blame' approach - here's
an explanation why
