Corporate Support - Case Studies

*Motorola

Motorola chose Kidscape as their charity of the year in 2004 and 2005. Under the title “Making a Difference Together”, Kidscape and Motorola worked in partnership to help local communities around the 6 Motorola UK sites. Motorola staff worked extremely hard throughout the year on various fundraising activities, ranging from office-based cake sales and raffles to individual sporting activities including a bike ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End and participation in the London Triathlon. The money raised by Motorola was then converted into credit for local schools (nominated by Motorola staff) which could use the funds to buy Kidscape publications, pay for in-house training sessions or send staff to Kidscape workshops in London. Over £50,000 was raised in the course of the partnership, with more than 40 schools across the country benefiting from Kidscape’s experience and expertise in anti-bullying issues

*iMPOWER Consulting Ltd

iMPOWER is a small company with 24 staff which provides consultancy to the public sector. In 2005 iMPOWER selected Kidscape to be their first ever corporate charity of the year as they established and developed their CSR policy. iMPOWER staff rose to the challenge of having a charity partner with great aplomb and dived enthusiastically into helping Kidscape wherever possible. As well as offering their individual talents to help Kidscape in areas such as illustration and marketing, the entire iMPOWER staff spent one day working in collaboration with Kidscape at a London school during anti-bullying week in November 2005. Over the course of the day the staff, who had each been allocated to spend the day with a specific class group, helped Kidscape promote the anti-bullying message with the pupils. At the same time other iMPOWER staff analysed the results of bullying questionnaires for pupils and staff so that at the end of the day a report could be presented to the school and Kidscape giving a valuable insight into the school’s management of bullying. iMPOWER’s work with Kidscape was honoured at the City of London 2006 Dragon Awards, where they won the Heart of the City award for best new project.

*National Savings & Investments

Kidscape is NS&I’s current charity of the year, and has been since 2006. Despite the difference in size (NS&I has several hundred staff against Kidscape’s 13), the relationship is a very fruitful one for both parties concerned. The Sports and Social Committee of NS&I is the spine which holds the relationship together, organising fundraising events in the office as well as being the point of liaison for Kidscape. “Nosh & Know” informal lunchtime presentations give Kidscape the chance to meet with NS&I staff, update them on new projects and how their money is being spent, as well as offering advice if any member of staff feels that their family might benefit personally from Kidscape’s expertise. Kidscape has benefited from many gifts in kind during the relationship, including the use of the NS&I auditorium to hold our annual conference in 2006, potentially saving Kidscape thousands of pounds in room hire and catering fees. Various individual staff members have been enthusiastic fundraisers, participating in national sporting events under the Kidscape banner, including one brave soul who is competing in the London Marathon 2008, and the entire staff has competed in the Chase Corporate Challenge for the last two years. The first year’s fundraising efforts totalled over £5000 and the second year looks to be a similar amount, all of which is core funding which is so vital to any charity as it can be spent where it is most needed.
