Virgin London Marathon 2011On Sunday 17th April, over 35,000 people took to the streets of London to complete the Virgin London Marathon.
The warm, sunny weather may have been perfect for the crowds cheering the runners on, but it made the 26.2 mile route even more gruelling for those taking part. Kidscape had 16 runners taking part in the day, and would like to say a huge, huge thank you to all of them for taking part!
Not forgetting the fantastic Kidscape volunteers who came along to help cheer on the marathon team. The day wouldn’t have been so successful without you – thank you!

Thanks to the money raised from the marathon means that our ZAP Assertiveness Courses, our booklets, advice, and our helpline will continue to help bullied children and their families, and to help prevent bullying in the future.
As a small charity, we rely on a combination of donations and fundraising to keep our work going. An important part of this fundraising is the money raised from sporting and challenge events.

Mark Kolesnikow explains why he ran for Kidscape… “I
am currently working for National Savings and Investment, and Kidscape is our
corporate charity. It gives me great pleasure and pride to run the London Marathon
for such an amazing charity as I know that the money I raise will go to a great
cause. Throughout my training my main motivation has been the kids that benefit
from things such as ZAP. If the money I raise for Kidscape can benefit just
one child’s life then I know that all my hard work is well worth it.”
Matt Rawsthorne explains why he joined the Kidscape team… “The
reason I chose to run for Kidscape is that as a child, one of my school friends
experienced bullying and I saw how it affected him, as he gradually withdrew
from school and eventually became home-schooled. If he had received help from
Kidscape I'm certain he would have been better equipped to deal with the experience
and gain some much valued confidence.”
