Running the Edinburgh Marathon for Kidscape will be an amazing experience, but don’t take our word for it. Richard Wyatt, who ran the Edinburgh Marathon for Kidscape in 2008, tells all about his race of a lifetime…
“I kind of knew this would be an experience I'd never forget, and I wasn't wrong - a breeze for the first 16-17 miles, then excruciatingly painful later on!
The final stretch, in front of the grandstand at Musselburgh Racecourse was unbelievable - there were thousands of spectators lining the last few hundred metres, very close to the runners, screaming us on to the finish - very exciting and very emotional too!
After about 22 miles I decided I'd never run a marathon again, because I was so tired, but within a day or two I'd already started thinking about the next one! In fact, the post-run euphoria, which normally comes straight after a run for me, was delayed until the next morning and 9am had me striding up Salisbury Crags, hundreds of feet above Edinburgh.
Legs are sore now, and I'm very tired ... but it was definitely all worth it.
Thanks to Kidscape for helping me to have this fantastic experience.”
