Great British London 10k Run 2008 - 6th July

10k Run

It may have been raining in London on the morning of 6th July, but spirits could not be dampened.  A steady stream of runners dominated the roads from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall to the tune of ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ – the annual British London 10k Run had arrived.

**

Kidscape had a fantastic team of 14 runners completing the 10k on our behalf, and raising important funds to help Kidscape continue to keep children safe.  Enormous thanks go to our dedicated team: Steve Adams and Roxanne Palmer, Frank Charles, David Danks, Emma Huxley, Deana Lund, Jonathan Riley, Matthew Solly, Stuart and Stephanie Stevens, Shan and Tim Thornham, Debra Tucker, and one anonymous runner, for all their hard work and enthusiasm. If you would like to support them for making it all the way to the finish line, please follow the links below to their justgiving pages below.

“There is no better way to keep fit and to raise as much money as possible for Kidscape, who do such invaluable work with children all year round.

Peace and Blessings.”

“I did the British 10k London run last year and, surprisingly, enjoyed the experience. I’m doing it again because it’s a great way to make a difference to young lives, and I want to finish in a much more respectable time this year!”

Jonathan Riley

“My name is Jon Riley. I'm 27. I live in London, working as an accountant. I'm running for Kidscape because they do very, very important work helping prevent bullying and helping children who have been bullied.”

“The reason that we want to do the run started because I'd completed it previously in 2004 and loved the sense of achievement; we've both been trying to stick to an exercise regime so wanted a challenge to focus us this year.  Choosing Kidscape was based on me teaching in a school for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties and knowing how much support they need and how much of a difference Kidscape can make.”

Shan and Tim Thornham

“We are supporting Kidscape as we feel it is a charity supporting the welfare of all children. With two school aged children ourselves, it was important to us to support a children's charity. We are both looking forward to the challenge of the 10k!”

Once again, a huge congratulations and thank you to all our runners from Kidscape! To get an idea of what it’s like to run the British London 10k, there’s no better people to tell you than our runners…

"I ran the 10k for Kidscape for the second time in 2008. It was a good motivator to keep fit and it felt great to cross the finishing line in a better time than last year (I'm sure the lightweight Kidscape running vest helped). The Kidscape staff kept in touch with me personally throughout my training and encouraged my fundraising efforts. Best of all, I knew that the sponsorship I raised was going to a cause I really believe in."

Emma Huxley

“After signing up for the 10K run in 2007 at a charity event for Kidscape we embarked on the training in January this year.

Well, you ask 'did the training pay off on the day and did you beat your target time of under an hour'? The start was difficult as we could not get through the traffic (over 27000 people ran it so the road was busy) and thus we were slightly off pace at 3km. At 7 km the pain struck us both, but with the target time in our sights we pushed hard and went for it... Crossed the line in 58 minutes 30 seconds and felt overwhelmed with our achievement.

We met up with Jess and the other Kidscape runners afterwards, and then headed straight home on the train, quick shower and out for a nice pizza and beer... well, we earned it!

The day was great fun and to top it all I'm as fit now as I was in my late teens when playing football for the local pub!”
