Keep your friends

Lynn, 10 "Susan and Anne used to both be my friends. We have known each other for five years, ever since starting school. This year I became friends with Cara and now they all ignore me and whisper about me. I feel so awful."

Whatever you do, please don't throw away old friends when you make new ones. Fickle friends break many a heart. Most of the best friends I have are those I have known for over thirty years, some are school friends. Perhaps that's because they haven't been around me much!

Richard rang me a few weeks after we spoke, to tell me how things were going. He now has a group of four friends and they do most things together. He is still a bit sensitive, but he hides it well. Richard tries to be especially nice to new kids because he remembers well what it was like to be one.

His advice is to not sit back and let the bullies win. Get out there and make friends!
